Function or function domain:
Junior Assistant - Communication, Advocacy, Monitoring and Evaluation
Description of the work as a Junior Expert:
Veterinaries without Borders operates in Karamoja, a semi-arid region in north-eastern Uganda, where agro-pastoralism is a major source of livelihood.
As a Junior Assistant I had three main tasks. First, I was a communication officer ensuring external communication via social media, the website and publications. I also organised exchange visits with Belgian veterinaries and supported the production of a VTM Kzoom children broadcast episode of ‘Beestig’ (‘Beasty’) in Uganda and Rwanda. For M&E I collected and analysed data, reported, developed the project and systematised the M&E system. I also monitored the partners’ project implementation. Finally, I took many advocacy initiatives to have pastoralism recognised as a sustainable livelihood for the Karamoja region and to protect land rights. For instance, with local organisations I coordinated the visit of two European Members of Parliament and I was active in the steering committee of a coalition mapping grazing land in Karamoja.
